TEHRAN -- The Tehran Conservatory of Music plans to pay tribute to the Hungarian composer Zoltلn Kodلly (1882-1967) in a ceremony today at the venue on Nejatollahi St.

The Hungarian ambassador to Tehran Istvan Venczel, conservatory director Behzad Mo’afi, musician Homa Sadat-Afsari, and the conductor of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra Nader Mashayekhi are scheduled to deliver speeches. During the program a group of conservatory students will perform some pieces composed by Kodلly

  The ambassador said that in Europe the year has been named after Kodلly, in honor of his development of a comprehensive system of musical education which is still used worldwide, the Public Relations Office of the conservatory reported.

“The celebration is not confined to Europe alone. Concerts, exhibitions, conferences, and seminars are being held all over the world, including countries as far apart as Argentine and Japan,” Venczel added.

On the reasons for his cooperation with the Tehran Conservatory, he replied that officials from the embassy had attended the performance of Tehran’s conservatory on the occasion of the year of the Hungarian composer Bela Bartok and they had been very favorably impressed. The ambassador also remarked that in recognition of the year being named after Kodلly, many concerts and musical competitions are scheduled to be held throughout Hungary, adding “The Hungarian state radio will broadcast programs about Kodaly’s activities to collect and promote folk music.”
