Iran has celebrated the 200th birth anniversary of world-renowned piano virtuoso and composer Frederic Chopin during a ceremony in the capital city of Tehran.
Organized by Iran's Bokhara magazine and the Polish Embassy in Tehran, Iran's Chopin Night was held at the Tehran Conservatory of Music.
The event was attended by Iranian musicians as well as Bokhara Managing Director Ali Dehbashi, Polish Ambassador to Tehran Juliusz J. Gojlo, Tehran Conservatory director Behzad Moafi and Polish collector Krzysztof Dydo.
“Musicians are celebrating the 200th birth anniversary of Chopin all around the world from his birth place in Poland, to Austria, France, and Britain reaching as far as Iran, China and Japan,” Dehbashi said in his opening speech.
“His music failed to lose its color with the passage of time and has become increasingly popular in today's contemporary world.”
Ambassador Gojlo also expressed his gratitude to Bokhara magazine saying, “Iran and Poland have a common historical background, and both countries have fought for freedom.”
Poster collector Krzysztof Dydo, who displayed his posters on the sidelines of the event also praised Chopin and gave explanations about his Chopin poster collection.
“The Chopin posters I have gathered over the past 30 years are quite significant and belong to different concerts, competitions, and festivals,” he said.
“Talking about him is difficult and designing a poster on Chopin has always been a great challenge for graphic designers.”
Young Iranian musicians Sahar Taherkhani, Mohammad Katirai, Mohammad-Javad Bahrani and Laya Safiyeddin performed a selection of compositions by the child-prodigy pianist during the ceremony.
Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin (1810-1849) was a Polish composer and pianist of the Romantic period, best known for his piano solos and concerti.
